Nutritional Choice of the Month - October 2010: “ Autism & Kids’ Diets ”

autism ribbonCelebrities like Jennie McCarthy have espoused that children with Autism benefit from special diets.  The January issue of Pediatrics has concluded that these special diets (often without the presence of Gluten or Casein) do not improve autism in children.  The report found “no evidence that special diets helped improve the condition or that autistic children were more prone to digestive problems compared with other kids.”  An Associated Press estimate reported that 20% of children with Autism are put on a special diet.
